chic&basic Gravity

Our travel planner Sadie found this gem of a hotel for us in Porto and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have stayed there. You’d be very hard pressed to find a hotel with such friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a perfect location, just a tiny bit north of all the action, but far enough away that it feels like your in a local’s area with all kinds of great restaurants, bars, etc. nearby. It’s a very contemporary hotel with a really imaginative and fun interior and shows a nice amount of whimsy, but it’s also quite functional. I think we’ve all stayed in hotels that on the surface seem really interesting and fun, but one soon discovers that many things are awkward, impractical and downright annoying. This hotel pulls off all the good things about an edgy and interesting environment, but doesn’t give up the practical aspects of actually staying there. Our room was very well laid out and had a look and feel that required a lot of creativity that also made the space quite comfortable and functional. There is a large parking garage underneath and there’s no charge for parking. Every day we stayed there would be a super thoughtful surprise in our room when we returned in the afternoon. One afternoon it was the best carrot cake I've ever had. The next it was two glasses of very high-quality port along with two outstanding pastries. The staff helped me with so many things beyond restaurant recommendations. Just one example is Nuno came down to the parking area in the basement and programed my rental car (it was in Portuguese and I don't remotely speak the language!), so I could connect my phone via Bluetooth so I could finally hear verbal directions on Google maps through the speakers in the car. All the staff were great in every way I’d like to extend a special thank you to Maria, Juliana, Nuno and Jose for everything they did to make our stay a wonderful experience!

Trendy little hotel in a great location in Porto. Room was a great size and had a balcony. Staff was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Luggage storage before check in was a great help and the welcome glass of port was very appreciated after an overnight travel. Little happy hour / snack hour was wonderful each day. The neighborhood was convenient for walking around and felt local.

Excellent location in the historic part of Porto. Lovely staff and friendly vibe in the hotel. Really good breakfast buffet. Excellent coffee machine with Nespresso pods provided in the room and a kettle was available on request. Tea bags and herbal infusions (camomile, mint etc) were also available on request from the bar. The hotel restaurant was also very good - but there are many good cafes, bars and restaurants nearby which are all worth exploring. Our room overlooked a quirky garden area where the theme of Gravity was on display with a vertical pool and plants and furniture in the air! It definitely means this hotel doesn't fit into the usual bland boring decor category! Whilst it wasn't huge, the room was a decent size for a city centre hotel. Very comfortable, large bed and good pillows. Lovely, properly thick and fluffy towels. Cute little balcony. All of the staff are very friendly, polite, helpful and speak several languages. There's a lovely young and fresh energy about the hotel and its quirky decor.

It's the second time I stayed at Chic&Basic and it's seriously my go to place whenever I am in Porto. The staff is the NICEST, everyone is happily serving you and making sure you are having the best experience. The rooms are spacious enough, the balconies amazing to chill at after a whole day of sightseeing and the beds and bedsheets suuuper comfy. The variety at the breakfast (with vegan options available) is amazing and very tasty. The decoration of the hotel itself is amusing. The location is top-notch to walk around the main areas of Porto. I can't recommend this hotel enough!!
